position is eligible to be full-time remote with some travel to our
Portland headquarters.The Manager, Financial Reporting will manage
the Group's monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, in
accordance with statutory and, to a lesser extent, GAAP accounting
principles, establish accounting policies and procedures, monitor
internal control compliance and supervise and develop members of
the finance team. The position will be responsible for managing the
financial reporting team and report to the Director, Financial
Reporting.
- Manages and executes the monthly, quarterly and annual
financial reporting processes including accurate preparation and
review of internally prepared financial statements, quarterly and
annual statutory statements and annual audited financial
statements. Delivers reporting on a timely basis for use by
management, the Board and applicable external regulatory
agencies.
- Manages the external audit process which includes ensuring
supporting schedules are prepared and reviewed on a timely basis
and the audit is completed on time.
- Manages the Group's investment accounting and reporting by
working with our investment management and accounting vendors to
ensure transactions are accurately represented in our general
ledger. Includes initiating certain transactions such as cash
movement to and from our investment portfolio and movement of
securities for our portfolio of special deposits with states.
- Supports the general ledger close process by preparing and/or
reviewing certain journal entries and account reconciliations
according to the close schedule.
- Leads and develops financial reporting team with a goal of
continually improving collaboration, efficiency and effectiveness
throughout the finance team.
- Performs accounting research and advice on technical accounting
issues including expense and revenue recognition issues and proper
reporting of the same - supports the entire finance team in
understanding of accounting research and any applicable updates to
statutory or GAAP reporting that impacts the Group.
- Supports the CFO, and other MEMIC Group leadership to ensure
compliance with the internal control requirements of Model Audit
Rule (MAR). This includes review and finalization of policies and
procedures and internal control documentation including those
prepared by finance staff.
- Leverages the JD Edwards system by identifying ways to
continuously improving the general ledger area to meet the needs of
a rapidly growing business. Recommends upgrades if deemed necessary
to meet improved business needs.Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field with 5+ years'
work experience in finance or equivalent work and education
experience.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
- Strong hands-on accounting or auditing experience, including
experience in reviewing and preparing financial statements and
account reconciliations in a deadline driven environment.
- Must be able to successfully supervise and mentor direct
reports.
- Proven experience, solid knowledge and understanding of state
filing requirements, expense and revenue recognition, US GAAP,
FASB, MAR or other applicable accounting or regulatory
requirements.
