    The Co-op School was founded in 2003 by parents seeking a high-quality, affordable preschool in Clinton Hill and Fort Greene. It has grown from a small parent-run playgroup to a fully staffed, licensed non-profit school. Over the years, it has moved locations and expanded its programs, now serving preschool through middle school students in a state-of-the-art facility at 644 Gates Avenue, Bedford Stuyvesant.

    Job Summary
    We are seeking a part-time Learning Specialist for our Learning Support team. The role involves providing personalized academic and social-emotional support to middle school students, collaborating with staff and families, conducting assessments, and writing reports. The position reports to the Director of Learning Support.
    Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting learners through small group and push-in/pull-out interventions for academic and executive functioning needs.
  • Leading and participating in Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings to review student progress and support plans.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Learning Supports to align intervention strategies with school initiatives.
  • Attending weekly meetings and working with teachers to ensure effective differentiation and student growth.
  • Partnering with teachers and families to meet instructional goals.
  • Monitoring student performance and using data to inform instruction and interventions.
  • Communicating regularly with parents about progress and strategies.
  • Embedding The Co-op School's values into classroom culture and interactions.
  • Fostering an inclusive classroom environment using the Responsive Classroom approach.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
    Qualifications
    • Experience working with upper elementary and middle school students with learning differences.
    • Master's degree in special education or learning disabilities preferred but not required.
    • Passion for inspiring students and understanding diverse learning needs.
    • Commitment to social justice and anti-bias curricula.
    • Reflective practitioner dedicated to professional growth and collaboration.
    • Experience with DOE coordination preferred.
    • Training in Fundations, Wilson, Orton-Gillingham is a plus.
    • Ability to design and implement targeted interventions.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development.
      Additional Details
      • Hourly Rate: $41.66 - $53.74, based on experience and education.
      • Part-Time Union Position, starting August 2025.
      • Reports to the Director of Student Services.
