Stantec's Geotechnical practice has an immediate opportunity for a senior level Geotechnical Engineer. As a licensed professional engineer, you will provide comprehensive geotechnical services to Stantec clients from field explorations to the design and construction management of complex geotechnical structures. You will provide specialized services, such as the analysis and design of foundation elements, dam and levee structures, slope stability, highways interchanges, bridge foundations design, ground improvement, and seismic design.
Working throughout New England
Our Geotechnical Engineering Practice in New England is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Engineering Leader with strong client development experience along with commensurate geotechnical engineering knowledge. You will be expected to build relationships internally and externally and to use your engineering expertise for continued quality improvements, to manage client assignments, and to grow business opportunities within our expanding team and organization.
In this position, you will be working with engineers and leaders from a variety of disciplines in a true partnership with local and national business leaders, and will collaborate with the leaders in other groups, including, but not limited to, Environmental Services, Power, Transportation, Buildings, Community Development, and Infrastructure, to optimize integrated business planning and client management. Your Opportunity
The roles of a senior level geotechnical engineer include leading the work on projects, both small and large, and ensuring that quality and safety standards are met; developing new business through client relationships; participating in the leadership and growth of the New England Geotechnical Practice; and developing/mentoring staff. You will perform a variety of tasks related to a wide range of geotechnical engineering projects in support of transportation (bridge/highway/railroad), dam, power, and infrastructure (buildings/water distribution/treatment) projects.
Your Key Responsibilities



  • Be a leader in the New England geotechnical engineering team.


  • Work with other business developers, practitioners, and marketing teams within Stantec to assist in growing the geotechnical business.


  • Promoting business collaboration initiatives, working with other business lines to ensure a "We are better together" approach is taken with regards to client management and targeted opportunities and projects.


  • Develop and steward marketing and business development plans, budgets, and key performance indicators. Assist in the development of the annual business plan and budget for the group.


  • Develop and maintain industry relationships and visibility with current and prospective clients, sub-consultants, competitor/teaming partners, and potential recruits.


  • Attend selected conferences and maintain active memberships in associations, such as local geotechnical associations, and other related associations deemed beneficial to the group.


  • Responsible for health and safety for the assigned task.


  • Conducts analyses and calculations and performs other duties of a similar nature and level.


  • Performs field work related to geotechnical explorations and/or construction-related activities.


  • Prepares designs, drawings, specifications, presentations, and reports.


  • Executes key business development efforts and prepares proposals.


  • Assembles and reviews contracts and plans for subcontracted work.


  • Manages and leads other team members while working on projects, successfully providing high quality work products, and delegates specific project tasks to other team members as appropriate.


  • Assists in providing support services during construction, conducting construction oversight, and assembling submittals and reports, responses to requests for information, and responding to contract document clarifications.


  • Assist with the review of contractor submittals and as-built surveys.


  • Liaise between clients, contractors, regulatory and municipal officials, and third parties.


  • Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the discipline.


  • Manage projects from the proposal stage to the final deliverable, including being the primary client point-of-contact.


  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.


    Qualifications
    Your Capabilities and Credentials


    • A minimum of 15 years of geotechnical experience required.


    • An advanced understanding of geotechnical engineering concepts and analysis methods.


    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


    • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team settings and to engage in creative and critical thought.


    • Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar material.


    • Must have experience in Microsoft Office, GeoStudio, Apile, Lpile, GRLWEAP, and gINT.


    • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.


    • Excellent time management skills with the ability to understand task assignment and schedule, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources.


    • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.


    • Willing to travel on an as-needed basis in support of construction activities.


      Education and Experience


      • Bachelors Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering required. Master's degree preferred.


      • Licensed Professional Engineer in at least one jurisdiction with the ability to obtain reciprocity in others, as needed.


      • Minimum of 15 years of experience across a wide range of geotechnical projects and with a varied of clients, including both public and private, and under a range of regulatory programs (i.e., bridge/highway/railroad at DOTs etc.).


      • Travel/field work 10% to of the time.
