Job Summary: Manages work areas, trades, and units, and/or specific functions to ensure that a high quality, cost-effective product or service is delivered by the department in support of the hospital's strategic plan, and the function's goals and objectives. Job Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the development of meaningful goals and objectives for the department that align with the strategic direction of the organization by analyzing needs and developing recommendations. Communicates the goals and objectives to the staff and monitors progress during the year.
  • Establishes performance expectations; coaches, develops, and evaluates performance to enable employees to be successful in contributing to the achievement of individual and department objectives. Initiates, informs, and advises superior on hiring and disciplinary actions.
  • Creates and maintains effective, positive customer service relationships by identifying customers and their needs, ensuring that needs are met, responding appropriately to difficult interactions, and educating the staff on the importance of quality customer service. Effectively and continually communicates with the staff, management, and customers to facilitate the flow of information necessary to the success of the employees, department, function, and the organization.
  • Uses resources effectively and efficiently to achieve the goals and objectives of the department within established budgets by determining future needs, monitoring actual progress, and allocating resources to meet a changing environment.
  • Contributes to the efficient operation of the unit by
  • Qual establishing priorities, eliminating impediments, and resolving problems. Continually strives to improve the quality and productivity of the department by establishing priorities, monitoring performance measurements, identifying and recommending improvement opportunities, and eliminating obstacles.
  • Actively seeks opportunities to model teamwork through collaboration both within and outside the department in support of the organization's objectives.
  • Assumes responsibility for self-improvement, in collaboration with superior, by identifying, communicating and seeking resources or instruction/validation to meet own learning needs, and is self-directed in maintaining currency of validations.
  • Responsible for Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Building Automation at Hartford Hospital and all associated off site, CMS licensed locations.
  • Leads timely and effective preventive and ad hoc maintenance for all critical infrastructure, including but not limited to pressure relationships impacting infection control, ambient temperatures and HVAC needs.
  • Ensures continuing training and education opportunities for all staff, and promotes skill development to the end of increased efficiency of project work
  • Leads collaborative support for all engineering and architectural involvement relating to planning for new construction, renovation, and other asset modernization.
  • Structures and directs work and assignments, and ensures timely and effective use of staff resources, in coordination with supervisory staff activities. Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, 2 to 4-year degree in an associated field preferred
  • (7) seven to (10) years in supervision and leadership within an engineering environment
  • Engineering health care environment, preferred
