Title Assistant/Associate Director of Donor Relations (Engagement) Department Donor Relations Regular or Temporary Regular Hours Per Week 40 FLSA Determination Exempt 52 Open Date 11/06/2020 Open Until Filled Yes Full or Part Time Full Time Position Summary Trinity College is currently seeking a talented and energetic Assistant/Associate Director of Donor Relations who will be responsible for supporting a successful donor relations program and all areas of Advancement in their efforts to secure gifts to further Trinity's mission and the retention of its donors. Under the direction of the Director of Donor Relations, the Assistant/Associate Director will assist in providing support for the broad-based and fundamental activities of Trinity's comprehensive Donor Relations program. This individual will oversee the planning and implementation of donor relations initiatives and recognition through the production of a broad array of activities including events, targeted communications, acknowledgements, and other marketing-type programs. The incumbent will provide broad-based and fundamental services and support of Trinity's comprehensive Donor Relations program. Main responsibilities include implementation and management of a donor engagement and recognition program, as well as the oversight and management of communications, donor relations, and stewardship initiatives. The candidate should have the ability to work alongside many stakeholders and develop a deep understanding of current stewardship and engagement practices and donor communications and seek new opportunities for stewarding, acknowledging, and engaging Trinity's donors.

The purpose of all donor relations and stewardship activity is to engage Trinity's most important alumni and donors and to involve them in substantive ways in the life of the College, predisposing them towards new and additional gifts, and provide strategic support for the College's fundraising efforts.

Trinity College is a highly selective, independent, nonsectarian liberal arts institution located in Connecticut's capital, Hartford. With over 2100 full-time undergraduate students and 91 graduate students, the College maintains a rigorous academic profile complemented by a vibrant and diverse co-curricular program. The College enjoys the benefit of being situated in an urban center and has strong academic, social, and philanthropic connections to our home city of Hartford. Our student body is diverse, representing 41 states and 70 countries with 21% students of color and 50% women. Just over 90% of students live in campus residences. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation of special events, donor recognition, ribbon cuttings, building/named space dedications, receptions, leadership philanthropy initiatives, and other Development-sponsored donor events as needed.
  • Oversee donor physical commemoratives and other donor signage and plaques, including but not limited to working with donors, facilities, faculty/program managers, and others to determine appropriate style and materials for signage, ordering new signage from vendors, supervising installation, and maintaining database/record of donor plaques, memorial trees, portraits, etc.
  • Assist Director of Donor Relations and provide support to the Vice President of College Advancement in their work with the Committee on Named Facilities and Commemoratives.

    Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Gathering information from project managers of fund-raising initiatives, drafting communications, assembling materials, compiling notes, and preparing briefings for key participants.
  • Manage and oversee special acknowledgements including video recognition campaigns, giving societies, recurring gifts, and Loyal Bantams; in consultation with the Director, makes recommendations on the development and implementation of new recognition initiatives and programs based on departmental needs and industry best practices.
  • Interact and communicate with high-level and other donors, the President of the College, top College administration, members of the Board of Trustees, Board of Fellows, and other Trinity leadership as required for events, meetings, and other activities.
  • Recommend, recruit, and train outstanding students for involvement in meetings and events for Advancement volunteer groups, panel discussions, and other donor-related events.
  • Answer and research inquiries from donors and ensure that requests for information are fulfilled in a timely manner.
  • Investigate and recommend innovations for the expansion and enhancement of donor relations and stewardship programs. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in business, english, communications, public relations (or similar) and 1-3 years of experience (Assistant Director) or 3-5 years experience (Associate Director) in development, alumni relations, institutional advancement, donor relations, stewardship, or a related field, preferably in higher education; or an equivalent combination of education or experience
    • Strong and extensive writing, editing, and proofreading experience
    • Experience in event planning and project management
    • A proven ability to create, implement, and manage events and new programs, and an ability to discreetly handle confidential information about donors and volunteers
    • Proven ability with project management and a willingness to organize and juggle multiple projects; must be motivated and able to create innovative ideas to achieve results, and recognize and seize opportunities
    • Capacity to respond with insight, tact, and sensitivity to donors' concerns; must exercise diplomacy and discretion in dealing with high-level donors and confidential information.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation; poised, professional manner and the ability to communicate clearly, directly, and empathetically in all interactions including verbal and written communications, one-on-one conversations, and in groups
    • Demonstrated ability to proactively and skillfully engage others in ways that help resolve differences, manage conflicts, and build consensus, all with the best interests of Trinity in mind
    • Demonstrated creativity, organizational ability, empathy, and strong attention to detail
    • Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations, exercise good judgment based on information and analysis in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment in an organized and professional manner
    • Must have excellent organizational skills, be able to handle multiple complex tasks at once, and able to work with a sense of urgency
    • Must demonstrate excellence in written and oral communications, including proofreading and editing for Trinity College's style and standards. Must exhibit thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing tasks through concern for all areas involved
    • Must be able to represent Trinity College and the Advancement Office effectively to faculty, donors/prospective donors, and members of the community
    • Willingness to work and/or confer at various hours as required by deadlines

    • Demonstrated fluency with Microsoft Office applications
    • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as required Desired Qualifications
      • Familiarity with fundraising principles and experience in a higher education or academic setting
      • Experience with PeopleSoft and/or CRM systems
      • Comprehensive knowledge of Trinity College's mission and programs and/or experience in another college setting Physical Requirements
