Title Assistant Director of Donor Relations Department Donor Relations Regular or Temporary Regular Hours Per Week 40 FLSA Determination Exempt 52 Open Date 04/27/2021 Open Until Filled Yes Full or Part Time Full Time Position Summary Trinity College is currently seeking a talented and energetic Assistant Director of Donor Relations (Stewardship) who will be responsible for supporting a successful donor relations program. Under the direction of the Director of Donor Relations, the Assistant Director will assist in providing support for the broad-based and fundamental activities of Trinity's comprehensive Donor Relations program. This individual will oversee a variety of stewardship and acknowledgment programs including the Scholar Program. The incumbent will also manage and supervise the production of a variety of communication materials designed to keep donors apprised of scholar and faculty achievements and celebrate gifts made to the College. The purpose of all donor relations and stewardship activity is to engage Trinity's alumni and donors and to involve them in substantive ways in the life of the College, predisposing them towards new and additional gifts, and provide strategic support for the College's fundraising efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directs and develops the Trinity Scholarship program including the creation of donor annual reports. Serves as the point person for student scholars to obtain information and respond to inquiries; facilitates thank-you letter program; collaborates with Advancement colleagues in the collection, proofreading, editing, and distribution of scholarship reports; collaborates with Communications to develop and produce associated materials.
  • Serves as the point person for Award Management system (previously AcademicWorks) to manage data in support of the Scholars Program.
  • Manages the creation, review, and distribution of weekly acknowledgments, as well as all of the honor/in memory/in tribute notifications.
  • Directs and develops all stewardship of the Trinity internship program, including the creation of donor annual reports.
  • Works with Director of Donor Relations and the Assistant Director of Donor Relations (Engagement) to organize annual scholar reception, virtual scholar/donor meetings, and other scholar events and activities.
  • Represents Donor Relations in regular i-Modules (online constituent engagement management system) meetings. Utilizes system in conjunction with other communications related to Donor Relations and other Advancement programs.
  • Assists the other members of the donor relations team in executing major events, including but not limited to assisting with the planning and implementation events celebrating leadership philanthropy (lectures, dedication events, giving society events, etc.), volunteer management, and donor cultivation events. Assist in managing these events on-site by interacting with special guests, speakers, and key Trinity staff. Other ancillary duties as assigned by Director of Donor Relations and VP of Advancement including assisting VP of Advancement with correspondence, research, reports, etc. as requested.
  • Investigates and recommends innovations for the expansion and enhancement of donor relations and stewardship programs. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree with college course work in English or communications preferred, plus a minimum of three years' experience in communications or writing, donor relations, or higher education
    • Must demonstrate excellence in written and oral communications, including writing, editing, and proofreading
    • A proven ability to create, implement, and assist on events and new programs, and an ability to discreetly handle confidential information about donors and volunteers
    • Proven ability with project management and a willingness to organize and juggle multiple projects; must be motivated and able to create innovative ideas to achieve results, and recognize and seize opportunities
    • Capacity to respond with insight, tact, and sensitivity to donors' concerns; must exercise diplomacy and discretion in dealing with high-level donors and confidential information.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation; poised, professional manner and the ability to communicate clearly, directly, and empathetically in all interactions including verbal and written communications, one-on-one conversations, and in groups
    • Must have excellent organizational skills, be able to handle multiple complex tasks at once, and able to work with a sense of urgency
    • Demonstrated creativity, organizational ability, empathy, and strong attention to detail
    • Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations, exercise good judgment based on information and analysis in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment in an organized and professional manner
    • Must be able to represent Trinity College and the Advancement Office effectively to faculty, donors/prospective donors, and members of the community
    • Willingness to work and/or confer at various hours as required by deadlines and/or events

    • Demonstrated fluency with Microsoft Office applications
    • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as required Desired Qualifications
      • Familiarity with fundraising principles and experience in a higher education or academic setting
