Reporting to CIO, develop & execute portfolio management strategies for insurance and annuity product segments and the general account. Identify, screen, hire and manage external asset managers (e.g., core fixed income, specialty, and alternative credit managers) to execute core, core-plus and opportunistic fixed income asset strategies. Manage portfolio risk parameters (duration, cash flows, quality, etc.) in relation to asset-liability management and regulatory/accounting guidelines. Execute portfolio strategies, analyze and execute derivatives transactions and provide reporting as needed. Support portfolio reporting and modeling processes. Analyze new strategies and new asset classes for internal and external management. Create analyses of investments and support product development. Support M&A and other corporate related initiatives. Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and directs the daily investment activity for the insurance company and general account portfolios
  • Hires, monitors, measures, and oversees third party external managers (e.g., core fixed income, specialty, and alternative credit managers) across core, core-plus and opportunistic fixed income strategies
  • Coordinates and manages the risk parameters for the insurance portfolios
  • Reviews available cash flows, allocates funds to public corporate and structured sector managers, private placement analysts
  • Monitors risk limits and adjusts portfolios as needed to comply with risk targets/limits
  • Coordinates and directs rebalancing of portfolio for ALM
  • Support M&A and other corporate related initiatives
  • Analyzes and trades derivatives securities to manage living benefit and other guarantees, and provides regulatory and reporting compliance
  • Models investments on analytic systems
  • Completes ad hoc reporting and investment analysis
  • Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • CFA or other industry designation preferred
    • At least 6-10 years of investment experience in the management of insurance company portfolios.
    • Title (VP/MD) commensurate with experience.
    • Knowledge and experience in both public bonds and private markets
    • Experience managing core, investment grade portfolios, core-plus mandates and below-investment grade portfolios
    • Knowledge and experience in derivative instruments including regulatory and accounting requirements
    • Experience and knowledge in risk management and asset-liability management for insurance portfolios
    • Strong level of oral and written communication skills
    • Detailed knowledge of accounting, regulatory, legal and rating agency requirements for insurance investment portfolios
    • Knowledge of manager selection criteria and management of asset allocation portfolios
    • Ability to work in an unstructured and dynamic team environment
