Description: Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager and Director
of Nursing, this position provides nursing care of patients under
the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. Nursing care
is provided in accordance with established philosophy and
standards. The Surgical Technician in labor and delivery is
accountable for aspects of nursing care within their scope of
practice. Responsibilities include scrubbing in, sterilizing, and
setting up rooms. Clerical and support services are provided to the
unit as necessary. Job Functions: Coordinates clerical work at the
labor and delivery desk. Stocks labor and delivery rooms with
supplies. Sets up OB tables for vaginal deliveries. Assures patient
safety by demonstrating age-appropriate skills. Performs duties
that support nursing and patient care activities. Gathers
appropriate instrumentation, supplies, and equipment for cesarean
deliveries. Assists with positioning patients on the OR bed.
Prepares the sterile field and arranges sterile instruments prior
to surgery. Maintains integrity and sterility of the sterile field
throughout the procedure. Reports any breaks in aseptic technique
to the circulating nurse immediately. Possesses knowledge of
cesarean delivery procedures and anticipates the surgeon's needs.
Provides instruments and supplies to the surgeon in a timely
manner. Implements patient safety procedures, including counts of
sponges, needles, and instruments. Prepares specimens accurately.
Prepares contaminated instrumentation for decontamination at the
end of each procedure. Assists the circulating nurse with room
turnover, which includes cleaning and restocking. Requirements
