salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market
range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across
the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined
by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and
location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials

employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits
program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash

Openings1What Is the Opportunity?Travelers is seeking a Director of
Software Engineering to join our Enterprise Payments and Billing
organization as we grow and transform our Technology landscape. The
Director of Software Engineering is responsible for leading 6-8
engineers, driving technical direction and strategic initiatives
within our Loss Sensitive Billing Circle (agile team of teams),
which support the billing and receivable management for some of the
largest and most complex policies written at Travelers. You will
plan and execute at a strategic level, lead the design, development
and implementation of significantly complex problems that extend
beyond the confines of a team and establish software engineering
best practices and standards. You will direct expert software end
to end engineering tasks including designing, developing,
analyzing, configuring, testing, debugging, troubleshooting,
documenting, health monitoring/alerting, and implementing based on
user or system specifications for impactful and high-visibility
initiatives. This is a high-impact role as Travelers explores new
technologies and continues an exciting modernization journey.What
Will You Do?
- Lead a team of Software Engineers across several agile teams as
they design, develop, and support the business partners with a
mission to drive long-term value.
- Set technical direction and effectively influences across
multiple teams to improve the overall quality of engineering
practices and skill sets.
- Provide technical thought leadership, foster a team
environment, and provide mentorship and coaching feedback to
technical resources while assisting development teams.
- Ability to influence priorities by identifying solutions that
are aligned with current business objectives and closely follow
industry trends.
- Establish short- and long-term technology roadmaps for the
organization.
- Partner with broader software engineering excellence groups in
shaping technology best practices for the team.
- Lead POC efforts to investigate new technologies and business
capabilities.
- Participate and contribute meaningfully to architecture and
design activities, especially as we evolve into the public
cloud.
- Provide human resources management, including coaching,
performance management, team development and growth, and workforce
planning.
- Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to
formulate solutions for software engineering problems.
- Act as subject matter expert across multiple applications,
systems and technologies.
- Seek opportunities where technology can be utilized to improve
the business and provide more efficient processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.What Will Our Ideal Candidate
Have?
- 5 years of related experience; including insurance / financial
services industry experience.
- Demonstrated experience implementing current technology trends
and techniques (e.g., cloud-based solutions leveraging
microservices).
- Interprets internal/ external business challenges and
recommends best practices to improve SDLC processes.
- Experience with Java, Spring, Angular, REACT, and
Microservices.
- Experience with AWS EC2, Lambda, S3, and DynamoDB desired.
- Experience leading, guiding and coaching less experienced
Engineers desired.
- Experience leading design walkthroughs, code reviews and paired
programming desired.
- Demonstrated experience implementing current technology trends
and techniques (e.g., cloud-based solutions leveraging
microservices).
- Interprets internal/ external business challenges and
recommends best practices to improve SDLC processes.
- Delivery - Advanced delivery skills including the ability to
determine the software design strategy and methodology to be used
for efforts, use automated tests, analysis, and informed feedback
loops to ensure the quality and production readiness of work before
release, monitor the health of work efforts and that of adjacent
systems.
- Domain Expertise - Demonstrated track record of domain
expertise including the ability to develop business partnerships
and influence priorities by identifying solutions that are aligned
with current business objective and closely follow industry trends
relevant to domain, understanding how to apply them, and sharing
knowledge with coworkers.
- Problem Solving - Strong problem solver who utilizes data and
proofs of concepts to find creative solutions to difficult
problems, reflects on solutions, measuring their impact, and uses
that information to ideate and optimize. Also adept at making
decisions that involve a significant number of factors with broad
implications.

to describe technology concepts in ways the business can
understand, document initiatives in a concise and clear manner,

- Leadership - Advanced leadership skills with the ability to

Have?
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or
its equivalent in work experience.
- Three years of programming/development experience.What Is in It
