Highest level of underwriting expertise at HSB. Develop and deploy expertise to impact underwriting behavior. Responsible for underwriting strategies, guidelines, and protocols that drive business results and accountable for underwriting performance of cyber products from a profit perspective, as measured by loss ratio, by product segment and distribution channel. Provide product technical underwriting expertise for HSB, in all markets for a specific product set. Own, lead, set and monitor underwriting strategy for a product set. Define information and processes required to support their assigned products and bears accountability for the underwriting performance of these products across distribution methods, occupancies, and exposures. Partner with product managers globally, wording and pricing experts, Division CUOs and other underwriting leaders and set underwriting direction on product strategy, product enhancements and day to day underwriting issues. Drive strategy through deep understanding of the product, coverages, pricing, the underwriting processes used in all distribution methods and provides a forward looking, objective analysis and resolution of complex underwriting issues using data driven decision making. Balances strategy and execution/customer focus. Collaborate with field underwriting and client management to ensure underwriting meets business needs. Monitor product underwriting performance and market, legal, technological & environmental issues and trends and provides underwriting expertise to drive product enhancements and adjustments to guarantee profitable underwriting.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience is required
  • An advanced degree (Masters/MBA) or Insurance accreditation (CPCU) is desirable
  • 10+ years experience in underwriting or other relevant insurance experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep expert understanding of underwriting products, methods and risk management and ability to apply them to solve problems and drive profitable results
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of commercial, personal lines insurance and reinsurance coverage, concepts, principles, exposures, processes and knowledge of occupancy exposure
  • In depth knowledge of property, equipment breakdown, cyber, identity theft insurance products
  • Highly proactive, with a high degree of initiative, and naturally curious and inquisitive to identify issues and decisively solve problems, influence change and provide advice and consultation on complex coverage issues
  • Strong analytical, innovation and persuasion skills to influence change
  • Naturally curious and inquisitive to identify issues and decisively solve problems. Resourceful to research issues, assemble support and provide creative solutions to complex underwriting issues
  • Understands the organization's structure and exhibits a high degree of courage to influence stakeholders, resolve and manage conflict and implement underwriting improvements that lead to positive underwriting results
  • Familiarity with data driven decision making and ability to translate complicated concepts into pragmatic solutions for the business
  • Strategic vision while maintaining day to day customer focus
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
