Summary:The primary function of the Monitor is to monitor and
maintain the safety of the residential facilities of Mercy Housing
and Shelter Corporation. This position is classified as ESSENTIAL;
therefore, the employee must report for work when scheduled,
regardless of weather or other conditions that affect travel, and
remain on duty until relieved by the supervisor or person scheduled
for the next shift. Monitors must remain on the premises during
their shift unless authorized to leave.The Shelter Monitor will
provide direct program support to residents and work
collaboratively with Case Managers to help ensure successful
completion of Individual Housing Plan (IHP).SCHEDULED WORK
TIMES:Part Time: Saturday/Sunday, Full Time:
Mon-FriDuties/Responsibilities:Ensure a safe and manageable living
environment for shelter residents. Monitors residential areas, is
visible and continuously interacts with shelter residents.Assist
residents within limits in processing issues and problem-solving.
Demonstrate ability to deescalate situations and maintain control
of the group.Inform the on-call person of crisis situations or
critical incidents and make notations in the logbook.Monitor
medication and consumption log in accordance to the medication
policy of the program.Consult with direct supervisor or supervisor
on-duty regarding residents' personal needs, behavior and service
planning.Check for contraband in facility through general
observation, room or package/purse searches per the search,
contraband, and weapons protocols.Follow breathalyzer/urinalysis
policy as necessary.Supervise program activities and other
programming for residents.Attend staff meetings and trainings as
directed.Maintain visitor protocol and follow daily log
procedures.Follow appropriate critical incident protocol and
accompanying documentationMaintain a comprehensive and accurate
written record of events that occur during shifts, as well as
thorough incident reportsMaintain resident sign-in/out log as well
as all other logbooks and records.Conduct periodic inspections of
the facility and grounds through periodic rounds or camera
monitoring to ensure security of facility.Enforce periodic fire
drills and perform other safety duties as directed to ensure safety
of residents, including implementing emergency evacuation
protocol.Answer telephone and route calls or messages to
appropriate staff. Respond to in-person and telephone inquiries
from the public.Receive, account for and secure all donations
received during the shift, as well as provide donation receipts to
donors upon request.Prepare and serve breakfast and lunch as
needed.Administer Narcan (following training) when needed.Perform
other duties assigned.Required Skills/Abilities:Work in
collaboration with the Director of Programs and the Operations
Manager.Attend and participate in all required meetings.Excellent
interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively
both verbally and written with diverse clientele.Excellent computer
skills, including proficiency in MS Office SuiteAttention to
detail, organizational skills, and follow through required,
exceptional problem-solving capabilitiesAbility to work
collaboratively with other personnel and or service providers or
professionalsComfortable working with homeless
individuals.Education and Experience:High School Diploma degree
plus 3 years' experience in a human service and/or
nonprofitExperience with homeless persons, persons with mental
illness and/or those with substance use disorders. Strong computer
proficiency expected (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word,
PowerPoint).Knowledge of behavioral health; HIV/AIDS and homeless
delivery systems a plus. Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish)
preferred.Ability to be On-Call required.Licenses and
Certifications:Must have valid Connecticut driver's license and
clean driving record with proof of automobile insurance. COVID-19
Vaccination Required.Compensation and Benefits: $16-16.64 per hour,
based on shift plus generous incentive compensation plan.Community
