  • Employee referral bonus programEach day, ESF Dream Camp provides hundreds of urban youth in Philadelphia, PA and Hartford, CT an opportunity to become the people we know they can be. Most importantly, we offer them the opportunity to become the people they want to be.Position Summary:A Mentor is responsible for the supervision of students, promoting and actively participating in all after school activities, providing a safe and fun learning environment, and serving as a positive role model for students. Mentors work up to 26 consecutive weeks from mid-September to early-May.Program Dates, Times & Locations:October 2022 - May 2023 The Program operates at Trinity College and/or a local Elementary School, both of which are located in Hartford, CT.Potential Mentor hours are between 3:00-6:00 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Start and end times may vary depending on the location.Mentors are required to commit to at least two afternoons per week.Mentors will be placed at a location based on enrollment and staffing needs.Essential Job Responsibilities:Supervise a group of 5+ students focusing on behavior and group management, safety, security, and personal/skill developmentWork effectively with co-mentors and collaborate on daily responsibilitiesFacilitate and actively participate in all student activities including but not limited to: homework, tutoring, academic skills development, character building, arts enrichment, physical fitness classes, and group projectsComplete assigned paperworkServe as a positive role model to campersExhibit ESF Core Values at all times and adhere to all company policiesHave funOther responsibilities as assigned Experience Requirements:Prior experience working with children in a group setting, examples include but are not limited to; teaching, coaching, babysitting, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant, etc.Previous experience working with urban youthEducation Requirements:Minimum of eighteen (18) years of ageMust be a High School graduate pursing a college degreeEnrolled in or successfully completed an education-related or child-related major/course of study preferred Position Competencies for Success:Understand and support the mission of the organization Commit to the growth and development of youth Work effectively with others in all levels of the organization in a professional mannerDemonstrate outstanding communication skills; using clear, concise and professional language when interacting with campers, camp families and colleaguesBe responsible, reliable and safeAlways have a positive, can-do attitudeBe patient, caring and creativeProduce consistent, high-quality work Demonstrate excellent judgment; identify problems and work quickly to find solutionsBe a flexible, adaptive and a team playerDesire to make a difference in the life of a childCovid-19 Health & Safety Protocols:ESF has developed and will be implementing an Advanced Safety Plan to ensure our campers, team members, and parents thrive in a safe environment. This plan includes detailed safety measures in the following areas which will follow the safety measures of our host school. Team members will be trained on all protocols and full compliance is expected.Limited enrollment and smaller group sizes as neededCamper & staff screening with use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as neededCleaning, disinfection & handwashingReasonable contact reduction, including social distancing practices as neededSymptom Management Action Plan Specialized Safety TrainingReporting Relationships:Reports directly to and takes direction from the Program DirectorEssential Job Functions - Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsPush/pull, lift and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campusWork upright and mobile for two (2) to four (4) hours per dayRespond to emergency situations which may include running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and ascending stairs without undue exertionPossess physical capacity to fulfill all essential job functions - responsibilities listed above This job description is subject to change at any time.
