    LISC Connecticut is a local organization within National LISC, the nation's largest Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). LISC Connecticut has more than 35 years of experience working as a catalyst for community reinvestment in Hartford and across the state. It helps resident-led, community-based development organizations transform distressed neighborhoods into healthy places to live work, worship, do business and raise families. Since 1985, LISC Connecticut has invested $85 million in Connecticut's cities, suburbs, and rural communities, and leveraged an additional $818 million for community improvements.

    LISC Connecticut, in partnership with the State Department of Housing and Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, is establishing a Housing & Community Development Leadership Institute (HCDLI) that will provide ongoing learning opportunities to the community development sector broadly, as well as offer a certificate learning series that supports the entry of BIPOC professionals to the community development field.

    Position Description
    LISC Connecticut seeks to fill a Program Assistant (PA) position. The majority of the PA role will be to assist in the coordination of the Housing & Community Development Leadership Institute (HCDLI), a professional development program LISC administers on behalf of the Connecticut Department of Housing and Connecticut Housing Finance Authority. This role will serve as a liaison to the HCDLI network of participants, practitioners, instructors, and program partners. In addition to the HCDLI, the PA will provide administrative and programmatic support to the Connecticut Community Investments Team, comprised of two Senior Program Officers and one Program Officer. Activities and responsibilities outlined below for grants administration, partner outreach, and other tasks.

    Key Responsibilities
    Under the supervision of the Senior Program Officer for Capacity Building, the Program Assistant will support the following areas of work:

    Housing & Community Development Leadership Institute

    • Assist in the planning, logistics, and evaluation of the institute's annual training sessions
    • Oversee registration for all events
    • Market HCDLI activities through targeted monthly emails and electronic newsletter, with links to resources
    • Maintain HCDLI website, including posting events, reports, and links to social media
    • Assist in the production of program materials as needed
    • Coordinate two panels/networking events annually
    • Maintain a database of all program participants and event attendees
    • Perform all other special projects and duties as assigned


      Grant Administration

      • Assist in administration of grants and contracts, including processing within LISC's internal systems
      • Processing payment disbursements to grantees and consultants
      • Assist with preparing quarterly reports for funders


        Partner Outreach

        • Support Community Investments team with timely outreach to partners about funding and/or partnership opportunities
        • Coordinate outreach to partners for Section 4 advocacy campaign; year-end demographic survey; and other outreach as needed
        • Support logistics in organizing partner events, including quarterly convenings for the Hartford Neighborhood Development Support Collaborative and other community partner meetings


          Qualifications

          • Associate degree from an accredited college or university, or comparable work experience may be used as a proxy
          • Minimum 5 years' experience in planning and coordinating activities and events; degree may substitute up to two years' experience
          • Strong communication and relationship management skills
          • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; comfortable learning new technology and software
          • Capacity to work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects; able to set priorities for a challenging workload; and be a solutions-oriented professional
          • Interest in the community development sector and the critical role of nonprofit organizations in driving social change and preserving the unique cultural heritage of neighborhoods
          • Minimal local travel required (less than 5%), primarily in-state to training/workshop sites

            • Exposure to practitioners and leaders across Connecticut community development sector
            • Access to HCDLI professional education opportunities - the PA will participate in all HCDLI workshops
