Head of MultinationalReporting to the Head of Specialized Capabilities, this position leads, directs, and manages the business countrywide and is the enterprise retail leader for Multinational. Accountability extends to top-line growth and loss ratio goals for the Multinational unit, including execution of outbound products for U.S. customers and incoming business from foreign partners and insureds (including management of the Multinational Choice Exporters, Controlled Master Program products, and related servicing network for local admitted insurance policies). -
-The strategic agenda for the Multinational unit is critical to achieving Middle Market's strategic growth plan. The Head of Multinational owns the results for this product line within Commercial Markets and in the marketplace. He/she will be tasked with developing and executing countrywide strategies for both profitability and growth. He/she will also lead the Hartford Global Insurer Network. -The Head of Multinational leads and manages Multinational underwriting directors and works collaboratively with our U.S. field and home office underwriting organizations to deliver outcomes. The position leads the continued expansion and penetration of the Middle Market and Commercial Market's Multinational capabilities. In addition, the role will lead the development and prioritization of the overall Multinational product agenda for Middle Market and Commercial Markets.RESPONSIBILITIESFinancial Execution

  • Leadership and oversight of the Multinational underwriting team (incoming and outbound) and The Hartford Global Insurer Network team. -
  • Development and execution of strategies for achieving operating plan commitments (rate achievement, retention, new business, and profit).
  • Partner with finance, credit and security, claims, risk engineering, actuarial, risk management, compliance, legal, operations, IT, and other resources needed to support risk decision-making and manage portfolio service commitments.
  • Report out multinational financial results to senior leadership team.
    • Own efficiency of operating model.
    • Optimize expense ratio by understanding all components and pushing efficiency.Product & Underwriting Leadership
      • Responsible for establishing and maintaining close partnership with product and actuarial to inform business and anticipate actions on pricing trends, loss reserve trends, threats, and opportunities.
      • Provide thought leadership and support to product initiatives.
      • Partner with reinsurance colleagues to ensure special acceptance decisions and adherence to treaty.
        -Distribution Management
        • Drive strategies and practices with specific distribution partners to achieve desired results.
        • Manage relationships with top agents and brokers to maximize HIG market share.
        • Build strong relationships with top risk management clients to increase retention.
        • Support and provide leadership to sales and marketing initiatives and provide direction in the development of specialized marketing collateral.Strategy
          • Build and maintain the strategic roadmap for future of Multinational.
          • Help create clear vision/plan for the Multinational unit within each area (small, low end, middle market, and risk management).
          • Work closely with all underwriting officers in Middle & Large Commercial to ensure consistency.
          • Build thought partnership to drive product strategy and roadmap, appetite expansion, pricing, and service capabilities.Leadership & Talent Management:
            • Provide leadership to Multinational team.
            • Collaborate with Hartford units to expand Multinational penetration to meet the needs of clients with foreign exposure. -
            • Provide education, development, and guidance to further differentiated capabilities including claims, risk engineering, product, operations, and underwriting talent
            • Provide active and visible field and industry engagement, including representing The Hartford at various industry events.
            • Promote and support Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives.
            • Champion underwriting culture evolution in Multinational unit.
            • Create and sustain a high-performing team through identifying and recruiting the best talent and maximizing skill development. -
            • Provide clear direction and communication that support HIG and segment initiatives. -Ensure that leaders cascade information and keep employees informed.Qualifications:15+ years of progressive experience in Commercial Lines P&C underwriting, sales/field management, and supervision. Material exposure to multinational, sales/field management, experience with target areas such as Key Accounts, Education, Business Services, Technology & Life Science underwriting line of business.
              • Sound financial acumen and understanding of financials and P&L.
              • Knowledge and experience with setting and driving an operating plan, setting goals, and delivering results.
              • Deep understanding of the Commercial P&C business and an ability to develop sound strategies for capitalizing on opportunities and improving results.
              • Prior management experience with strong mentoring and coaching discipline. Ability to set clear goals and expectations and communicate a clear and compelling vision.
              • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships and partnerships across an organization. -
                • Ability to influence others in a matrix organization and motivate and promote a team atmosphere to achieve desired results.
                • Superior communication skills, both oral & written.
                • Ability to deal confidently with all levels of the organization, including senior executives in home office, field managers, and field underwriters.
                • Bachelor's degree required. CPCU or other industry designation preferred. Top-tier MBA or equivalent degree strongly preferred.

Travel required.CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
