Community Housing Advocates An Affiliate of Mercy Housing & Shelter Corp. and My Sisters' Place Job Title: Maintenance Worker I Department: Facilities Reports to: Facilities Manager FLSA Status: Non - Exempt Job Summary: Keeps premises in a safe, clean and orderly condition as instructed and as prescribed by applicable codes and regulations, agency standards and expectations. This position is classified as ESSENTIAL; therefore, the employee must report for work when scheduled or called in, regardless of weather or other conditions that affect travel, and remain on duty until relieved by the supervisor, or until the end of the normal workday, or until the end of the immediate need as determined by the supervisor. Scheduled Work Times/Locations: Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 4:30PM; flexibility for occasional nights or weekends when necessary 118 Main Street, Hartford, CT Maintenance Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Follow schedule for routine and thorough cleaning of entire building(s).
  • Immediately report hazardous, deteriorating conditions or general repair needs to the Maintenance Supervisor and take action as required to avert danger or further damage.
  • Keep public areas clean and safe for employees, residents and visitors.
  • With the approval of the Supervisor, establish and maintain storage for cleaning and maintenance equipment at each location, ensuring that tools are available for other staff use as required.
  • Inform Maintenance Supervisor when supplies are needed and assure that all chemicals, including hazardous chemicals, are adequately labeled and accompanied by Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and used only in accordance with SDS instructions.
  • Store bathroom and laundry supplies, replace light bulbs, sweep and mop floors.
  • Promptly dispose of garbage, cardboard, etc. as needed.
  • Quickly, efficiently, and thoroughly clean up any unexpected spills or messes as instructed/notified.
  • Use work order management system via mobile phone to receive and enter information regarding open/completed work orders.
  • On-call to assist with snow removal on premises when necessary
  • Perform any other task that will assist the agency in carrying out its mission as requested. General Staff Responsibilities: It is the responsibility of each Mercy Housing employee to:

    • Punctually attend all assigned meetings, in-services and trainings.
    • Demonstrate involvement as a team member.
    • Adhere to all applicable regulations, laws and policies/procedures and know and understand one's job description.
    • Perform all duties with sufficient speed and attention to detail.
    • Submit paperwork and meet job responsibility deadlines as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Education and Experience:
      • One year technical school; or one to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
      • High school diploma or GED equivalent expected. Required Skills/Abilities:
        • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Bilingual fluency (English/Spanish) preferred.
        • Basic computer proficiency expected (i.e., Microsoft Word, Outlook.) Certificates and Licenses: Must have valid Connecticut driver's license and a clean driving record with proof of automobile insurance. Must have a vehicle in good working condition. Compensation & Benefits:
          • $16-$17 per hour, based on experience plus generous incentive compensation plan.
